In the summer of 2025 we built a new wood fired kiln. The kiln is made up of 2000 firebricks, is 9 feet long and has a 12ft high chimney. We fire with a bit more than a cord of wood for 34 hours straight. Wood is the only fuel, and the ash and flame flow through the pots creating the organic patterns on the surface. Ash sticks to the pots and melts into glazes at 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. We also add a mixture of baking soda/salt/sawdust which vaporizes instantly and forms a textured glassy glaze on everything in the kiln. After firing we sealed up everything and had to wait 4 days for it to cool down enough to unload!
We will be uploading more information about the kiln soon, so stay tuned!
